My Philosophy of Care

I believe in a weight-neutral approach to nutrition. Food should not only nourish you but also bring you joy. I want clients to be able to take the stress out of meal planning and prepping and be able to stop feeling guilt or shame about what they eat. I start with an intake session to get to know you and your eating style and then we will work on small changes over time. Everyone deserves compassionate and empathetic care and that includes nutritional counseling. Helping a person improve their health requires that the client be able to share all parts of their lives with you and feel safe in doing so. I practice from a HAES perspective because size is not a marker of health and too many times people are dismissed and real health issues are overlooked due to practitioners not being able to look beyond a number on the scale. I do not discuss weight. Instead, I use evidence-based markers of health, like lab results to assess areas that we can work to improve and support my clients in changes that make their bodies feel good.

About Me & My Practice

I'm a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) with a Masters in Human Nutrition. I was formerly a professional chef and health coach. I moved towards this work through my own experience with disordered eating, autoimmune disease and chronic pain. I did my clinical hours with supervisors who practiced from a weight inclusive lens and collaborated with Project Heal, where I conducted Meal Support sessions and saw clients. I provide a space for clients to talk about how they have been harmed by medical fatphobia and let them know they are heard and seen and that I focus on their health, not their size. When I'm not with working, I enjoy traveling and kayaking.

Accessibility Considerations

All of my sessions are virtual, but I can enable captions on Zoom. If a client feels uncomfortable on camera, we can do audio-only sessions. Many insurance plans will cover sessions 100% if I provide a weight or BMI. I discuss this with my clients and let them know that I acknowledge that this is anti-fat bias and I leave the decision to them if they would like me to collect this information to submit to the insurance companies.
