My Philosophy of Care

My philosophy of care is through a social justice lens, while also applying concepts such as NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model) and mindful-based eating approaches that align with the principles of Health At Every Size® (HAES®). My goal is to respect the inherent diversity of people, their body sizes and shapes. I also utilize principles that consider the intersectionality that exists between a person’s mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, social, and financial health, while supporting them in their journal towards value-based living.

About Me & My Practice

Hi! My name is Sina and I support individuals experiencing disordered eating, eating disorders, addiction, trauma, body image concerns, & a society that oppresses their body, sexual orientation, gender, and ethnicity. I came to this work after a mixture of seeking out therapy for my own trauma, and working in a career that perpetuated oppressive structures and messages specific to weight, body size, & health. I found myself looking around and thinking, “this can’t be it.” I started seeking out information, support & a community that supports people healing, instead of perpetuating messages of diet culture, racism, sexism, ablism, and bigotry…. The HAES® community was it for me.

I have been practicing from a HAES® lens for 3 years and will continue to do so. I advocate for clients that have been impacted by anti-fat bias by speaking with their PCP’s & other healthcare clinicians (with my client’s’ consent) to advocate for wt. neutral, gender affirming care, while also educating these healthcare professionals about the harms of dieting, wt. loss recommendations, & anti-fat bias. I also create social media content and writing that aligns with HAES® and fat liberation as a means of social justice and advocacy.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, painting, walking, sitting in nature, baking, yoga, and spending time with my partner. I have a lovely husky named Kira and a growing houseplant collection.

Accessibility Considerations

I do not have in-person services and only offer Telehealth, however, as a part of my online practice, I advocate for gender-affirming practices, provide closed captioning for any pre-recorded resources, discuss best communication methods & needs with clients, and use a Telehealth platform that offers additional accessibility options.
