My Philosophy of Care

I believe the work that I am privileged to participate in is deeply relational and rooted in the connection built with each client. I want to create a container in which people can explore their relationship to themselves, their bodies, their concepts of health, and the world around them while divesting from the shame and stigma so often applied to those things. Health At Every Size® is a model/lens I'd been looking for for years as a provider and one I am so grateful to share with my clients, because it encompasses health in so many more domains than other models I've encountered. I'm proudest when I am in alignment with the values of HAES® and am constantly working to make sure I am unlearning the systems of harm, oppression, and violence in which I have been trained.

About Me & My Practice

I came to being a dietitian after 8 years as a chef/chef instructor, most specifically after working in a position that allowed me to train under/unemployed adults for positions as cooks in professional kitchens. I became so much more aware of how my privileges influenced my knowledge about and relationship to food and my body and developed a strong need to learn more. I have been practicing from a Health At Every Size® lens for at least 5 years at this point, and have experience working with superfat+ folks in that time, particularly in helping them navigate fatphobic healthcare systems. While my training is in human nutrition, I also feel strongly that it is within my scope to advocate for/with my patients to other providers that may not be operating from a Health At Every Size lens.

Accessibility Considerations

I request that all of my clients have their videos on during our sessions as I have auditory processing challenges that make processing speech absent the ability to lip read very challenging for me.
